A Round Pin Heatsink was developed for low air flow environments. The round shaped pins are set in a pattern that makes it easier for air to efficiently flow through the heat sink. A Round Pin Heatsink is ideal for omni-directional situations as the airflow can come from any direction, and changes in airflow patterns only have a minimum impact on performance. Round Pin Heatsinks provide an effective cooling mechanism by fanning out of the heatsink fins within given space environment, and can dissipate heat at much higher rates in low ventilation circumstances when compared with the normal flat fin heatsink design.

WHAT IS A ROUND PIN HEATSINK?
Round Pin Heatsinks can be manufactured from both Aluminum, and copper by various methods. The most efficient Round Pin Heatsinks are forged that allows for both high aspect ratio designs, and also highly conductive materials to optimize this heatsink for highly demanding thermal environments.
Radian Thermal Products offers a wide range of copper and aluminum round pin heatsinks in both standard, and custom designs. Many engineers are now using the Round Pin Heatsink in innovative ways to efficiently deal with challenging thermal requirements.
Radian’s BGA Round pin heatsinks are high efficiency heatsink cooling products which are ideal for omni-directional air flow and convection environments. The Aluminum Round Pin Heatsinks are constructed of forged aluminum AL6063 and are finished with black anodize plating.
For better thermal performance the Copper Round Pin Heatsink is a great option. These are constructed of forged CU1100 oxygen-free copper for optimum heat transfer.
These devices mount with EZ SnapTM mounting clips and / or thermal tape for various package sizes and airflow. These off-the-shelf, high-efficiency solutions are easy to install and require no special board modifications or complex assemblies.

- Use clip tool HS8132 to attach or remove heatsink assembly directly to BGA chip.
When selecting the correct clip, it is important to get a clip that is within the range of the nominal chip height. This is the chip height without the solder balls. If the nominal is not available on the chip datasheet just use (max + min)/2. Where a particular chip height is not available, the base of the BGA heatsink can be reduced to provide correct fitment. If a part or BGA heatsink size is not available online we can usually offer an alternative part, or modify a part in stock to fit your needs. For lower volumes, we can also precision machine a square pin heatsink to fit our EZ-snap clip, that can offer similar performance, and for larger volumes a precision casting can be made for your exact requirements.
