Z clips are a wire formed heatsink clip , and attach heat sinks using pins mounted in the printed circuit board. The Pins are pushed through holes designed into the PCB with a 1.8mm hole. To assemble, attach the z clip to a pin on one side of heatsink. Push the spring until the other side of the clip can be placed in the other pin. The spring tension of the Z clip maintains ideal pressure of the heatsink against the component being cooled. Radian offers a wide range of wire form Z clips for optimal pressure, ensuring no damage to the PCB and ideal pressure of the heatsink to the component being cooled. The solder less anchors to provide a secure attachment method for processors and ball grid array (BGA) components.

WHAT ARE Z CLIPS?
Z-Clip Assembly
Insert the two pins into the PCB, locate the heatsink onto the heat source, and attach the Z-clip to one pin.
While holding the heatsink, bring the Z-clip close to the second pin, and then insert larger hole onto the pin.
Push the Z-clip so that the smaller hole is attached onto the pin.
Check fitment
By using a design that uses a keyhole lock we can easily customize the Z-clip to fit any application. Combined with a small PCB hole size at Ø1.8mm the z-clip provides a great alternative to pushpins.
The Z-clip can also be mounted inside the heatsink, and with a small PCB hole size at Ø1.8mm it makes a great alternative to a standard pushpin while putting pressure at the center of the source rather than the corners.
